REAL ESTATE -- LAND, HOMES, VILLAS AND BUSINESSES FOR SALE IN MONTSERRAT Since the Soufriere volcano erupted in 1995, the real estate business in Montserrat has dramatically changed. The island had always been relatively isolated from its neighbors in the Caribbean and from the world's notice. In the late 1960's or thereabouts, a business deal was struck between a few of the more powerful islanders and some developers from the United States. Lands on the western side of the island were to be developed and sold to foreigners looking to own a warm and safe haven from northern latitude winters. Advertisements ran in The New York Times and no doubt elsewhere that properties were being sold on a beautiful Caribbean island as part of a residential development for expatriates. The home we bought in 2002 was one of the first built in a neighborhood called Olveston. The structure was ordinary, a straight forward ranch house with a separate spacious garage. The property was large and the location was extraordinary, backing into a deep ravine dubbed a "national park" where few would dream of building on the other side. We thought we had the best of all worlds, a front yard that faced a woody neighborhood and a back yard that faced a park. Over the time we spent on the island we realized we had a lot to learn.

RECYCLING IN MONTSERRAT Let's make Montserrat "Our Green Island" by using renewable resources and recycling. Currently there are no facilities in Montserrat or any agreements with neighboring Islands to recycle bottles or cans or anything else, but with any luck soon there may be some news on developments in this area. Cable and Wireless, which spent millions changing its name to LIME started offering their clients a chance to have paperless statements of their telephone bills. This was a in their effort to save the environment by saving some trees and other pollutants like ink and dyes used in the paper. If you wish to participate in this program just stop by LIME and speak with Jacqueline. She will gladly sign you up. To access your bills once you have signed up just type in the following link: http://eaccount.cwmontserrat.com then put in your password and username and there you go -- except you still have to pay, oh well! Perhaps someone will ask how much LIME saved in going paperless and how much of that saving they are or will be passing on to their customers. REFRIGERATION & REFRIGERATOR REPAIRS McPhoy,
