This is the wall in front of our home, Runaway Point, in Olveston, Montserrat. It was painted bright white just last year. The bamboo has been home to banana quits and hummingbirds and the spider lilies have added a lush touch of green to the wall. All of that changed in just a few hours.

Note: none of these photographs are in black and white.

Our Garden -- Post Dome Collapse May 20, 2006

Oh, Dear!
And Just Last Week The Amaryllis Were in Bloom
Does This Look Like Celery and How About The Geranium?
As if The Hibiscus Hasn't Had Enough Trouble?
I Guess We Won't Have Many Mangos This Year
This Was One of Our Largest and Most Beautiful Frangipani; in Full Bloom on Friday
Caked in Wet Acidic Ash, Almost Everything Appears Dead
Tea in The Garden Anyone?
And Now for a Stroll in The Shady Terrace Garden
The Trees Overhead Protected Some of The Plants
But, Not All of Them! Not The Papaya,
And Not The Ginger Lily.

It is amazing to see the recuperative power of living things. Plants and trees here in Montserrat have been through more than ten years of volcanic activity and still they survive. Within a few months of this event, our garden will have recovered, though each time this has happened the more fragile plants do not reappear. Still it is remarkable.
