you would like to go to! The Soufriere volcano dome collapse started in the early morning hours and its effects were felt throughout the day and night. Our new airport was closed. When we knew we were here for the duration, we got on with the day. These are a few of the pictures we took as we drove from Olveston through Old Towne and back. You'll see how our tropical paradise in Montserrat changed from verdant green to a world of black and white. Scroll down to see for yourself.
It must be said that this dome collapse was an extraordinary event in our lives. It was the first time we have been on island when Soufriere caused so much damage. We have always had great respect for the islanders, but now it is enhanced by our own experience. We spend time each day cleaning up ash, constantly wiping down surfaces in the house which become gritty in only hours. What has made this experience bearable is the knowledge that in only a few months the island will have recovered once again. Everything will be lush and green. Our pool with be crystal clear and life will go on. A sense of humor helps. In the span of the ages it is important to remember that this beautiful island was created by volcanic eruptions and our short time here is only a blip on the screen. Humans
and Animals Were Not the Only Ones Affected
