Hiking With Joe Barker
Underwood to Dick Hill

Beginning of Trail

Duration of Hike: ~ 2 HRS
Rating of Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Underwood to Dick Hill

This portion of the trail is continuation of the longer trail that starts near the Grand View Bed and Breakfast on Baker Hill and continues in an easterly direction to the area known as Underwood, then onward to the base of Mongo Hill near the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

A short walk up the road behind the church will reveal the start of the rest of the trail that ascends Mongo Hill then turns in an easterly direction and continues on to Dick Hill. Finding the start of the trail behind the church at Mongo Hill may take a little searching and for a brief period the start is a little obscure with vegetation, but for the most part the trail is well manicured and easy to follow.

The trail is accessible at Baker Hill, Underwood, Mongo Hill and Dick Hill and can be made into short hikes in either direction. It ranks among the better trails on the island and is rated as easy to moderate.

Be prepared for many beautiful spots along the way, such as pools of spring water in the bottom of ghauts slowly flowing seaward. You'll see many plants and trees only found at the higher altitudes and you will pass areas that have been cleared for cultivation. There are many birds that will delight you along the way.
