of your group of an upcoming event or meeting and more.
As home
owners in Montserrat, we found it difficult to find the things we were
looking for when we first arrived. Word of mouth is a good way of communicating
if everyone knows everything; that is unlikely in this small diverse community.
Who would have guessed that the post office is the island's bulletin board?
Following are some advertising categories to get things started, but if
you have something you'd like to advertise which doesn't fit an existing
category, just let us know how you would like it listed.
For Sale,
Wanted to Buy, Wanted to Trade or Barter, Employment Opportunities, Employment
Wanted, Events and Meetings, Does Someone Know, For Rent and Wanted to
Rent.
By email,
send us the following information and a photograph if possible; remembering
that a picture is worth a 1000 words!

including performances before former US presidents Bill Clinton and George
Bush.
The dance troupe has been performing to packed audiences in Trinidad,
including Holi celebrations at the Gandhi Institute. The ten (10) person
group is now leaving on a Caribbean tour which will take them to Surinam,
Barbados, Grenada and then Montserrat on March 16th, 2010.
One of the items
being performed is “Barsane Ki Lathamar Holi”,
in which the women hit the men hard with seven feet bamboo staffs, while
the men tried to shield themselves. Another feature is the “Mayur
Raas” dance which focuses on the love between Lord Krishna and
Radha.
The troupe's performance in Montserrat is as a result of a visit to
Montserrat last year by the Trinidad-based Indian High Commissioner Malay
Mishra. The Indian High Commission in Trinidad, Government of Montserrat

MOVIES
-- weekends at the Cultural Center -- CANCELED
Current films shown at the Cultural Center was a wonderful option for
the island's adults and children alike, but as of May 29, 2008, the showing
of films was canceled.
In Madrid, Andalusia and Alicante Spain and in Coroico, Bolivia, we have
been thrilled to attend outdoor movies held in town centers or flat sports
areas. Everyone from the community brings chairs for themselves and their
children and as the sun sets and dark arrives families gather with their
chairs or blankets to sit on. The commercially minded also show up with
cold sodas, homemade pastries and candy. Community activists and artists
show up with a movie screen, usually a white sheet artfully fixed in four
corners, and a projector and get the film organized. For us these evenings
were always very special. We loved the outdoor movie, but the playfulness
and wonder of children viewing a movie with their parents made it an unusual
and unique experience. This is truly what a community is all about.
